Mo. Lawmakers, Candidate Visit St. Louis Area Hospitals
State representatives and a Missouri Senate candidate recently toured two St. Louis area hospitals to learn more about the care they provide to their communities.
Rep. Becky Laubinger, R-Park Hills, who serves on both the Children and Families Committee and Health and Mental Health Committee, was joined by Rep. Nick Kimble, D-St. Louis; Rep. Gregg Bush, D-Columbia; and District 4 Senate Candidate Gina Mitten to tour the WISH (Women and Infant Substance Help) Center at SSM Health St. Mary's Hospital – St. Louis.
The WISH Center provides comprehensive, high-risk maternity care for people who are affected by substance use disorder or other chronic illnesses. Their work has led to women receiving perinatal care improving fetal outcomes, decreasing care needed in neonatal intensive care units and improving postpartum goals after delivery.
At Ranken Jordan Pediatric Bridge Hospital in Maryland Heights, Mo., Rep. Jo Doll, D-St. Louis, joined the other lawmakers and candidate to discuss programs the hospital provides to children with complex medical conditions and their families to prepare children to transition home.
These visits were part of the Missouri Hospital Association’s ongoing work to connect legislators with hospital leaders and help policymakers better understand how legislation affects patient care and hospital operations. MHA-member hospitals interested in hosting a legislator visit can contact MHA's governmental relations team for help with scheduling, talking points and logistics.
The Missouri Hospital Association is a nonprofit association in Jefferson City that represents 138 Missouri hospitals. In addition to representation and advocacy on behalf of its membership, the association offers continuing education programs on current health care topics and seeks to educate the public about health care issues.
