DHSS Shares CDC Health Advisory On Multicountry Hantavirus Cluster Linked To Cruise Ship
The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services shared the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s health advisory on the 2026 multicountry hantavirus cluster linked to a cruise ship to ensure clinicians and public health officials are aware of recommended evaluation and response measures. Health care providers should remain alert for symptoms consistent with hantavirus infection and refer to the health advisory for clinical guidance, testing and infection control recommendations.
A small group of American passengers has been safely repatriated to a specialized National Quarantine Unit in Nebraska for observation, and individuals who tested positive or are symptomatic have been transferred to biocontainment units at this time. This is a highly controlled, precautionary measure to ensure any potential cases are managed without risk to the community. At this time, there are no confirmed cases in Missouri, and the overall risk to the public remains very low.
