MHA CEO Visits Capitol Hill to Discuss Implications of Medicaid Cuts
Monday, at the invitation of the American Hospital Association, Jon D. Doolittle, MHA President and CEO, briefed congressional health staff, primarily Senate staff, on Capitol Hill about the implications of proposed cuts on hospitals in Missouri and, by extension, nationally in a reconciliation bill being considered by Congress.
Doolittle shared the direct fiscal challenges associated with the proposals — reiterating what was discussed with the Missouri delegation during MHA staff visits in early May — and the broader concerns related to health care in Missouri.
U.S. Sen. Josh Hawley, of Missouri, has been outspoken in his concerns about the cuts, and Missouri Gov. Mike Kehoe also has noted how Medicaid cuts would affect Missouri.
Hospital leaders are encouraged to send a note of thanks to Gov. Kehoe and Sen. Hawley for their work in pushing back against cuts that could harm Medicaid. Hospital staff also may contact their congressional representatives through the AHA’s Coalition to Strengthen America’s Healthcare to protect Medicaid.
The Missouri Hospital Association is a nonprofit association in Jefferson City that represents 136 Missouri hospitals. In addition to representation and advocacy on behalf of its membership, the association offers continuing education programs on current health care topics and seeks to educate the public about health care issues.
