CMS Modifies Policy On Continuous Eligibility Waivers

CMS issued a press release outlining a change in policy that new or renewed Medicaid waivers extending eligibility beyond the statutory limit of 12 months will not be approved.

Missouri recently extended continuous eligibility for children under 19 on the Children’s Health Insurance Program and postpartum mothers to 12 months; neither population will be impacted by this change.

According to CMS, “This shift in approach reflects the agency’s commitment to preserving these vital programs for the most vulnerable Americans and using taxpayer dollars carefully.”
