MHA Substance Use Programming Team Attends Region 7 Peer Summit
MHA’s Substance Use Programming team recently attended and exhibited at the Second Annual Region 7 Peer Summit held Oct. 1-2 in Kansas City, Mo. The summit convened more than 500 attendees and focused on peer support and community health work across Missouri, Kansas, Iowa and Nebraska.
The event offered opportunities for peer support professionals, community health workers, and recovery advocates to learn from leaders, connect with organizations, and expand their networks through sessions, exhibitor opportunities, and keynotes from recognized figures in the field.
As an exhibitor, Engaging Patients In Care Coordination highlighted its community-based coordination model, which leverages certified peer specialists to engage community members who present in hospital settings following an overdose or substance use crisis.
Through expedited connections to treatment and access to medication-assisted treatment, the program continues to demonstrate the value of peer-led approaches in improving outcomes and bridging gaps between acute care and community support.

The Missouri Hospital Association is a nonprofit association in Jefferson City that represents 136 Missouri hospitals. In addition to representation and advocacy on behalf of its membership, the association offers continuing education programs on current health care topics and seeks to educate the public about health care issues.
