DHSS Seeks Input On Regulation Language For Newborn Safety Incubators
The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services is seeking input on new regulation language for cost reimbursement related to the Safe Place for Newborns Act, which allows parents to voluntarily give up their newborns up to 90 days without prosecution, as long as it is done safely and according to law.
This rule establishes the requirements for facilities to receive matching funds for the installation of newborn safety incubators such as those utilized in Safe Haven Baby Boxes in fire stations and hospitals.
Under the new regulation, providers can receive as much as $10,000 in state matching funds to help with installation costs for newborn safety incubators. The proposed rule language can be found on DHSS’ website, and statutory authority governing the program can be found in 210.950, RSMo.
The Missouri Hospital Association is a nonprofit association in Jefferson City that represents 136 Missouri hospitals.
