Started in 2025, The Missouri Naloxone Project is dedicated to empowering all hospitals, Labor and Delivery Units, and Emergency Departments to distribute Naloxone to all patients. This will be done through partnerships with medical organizations and harm reduction agencies.

Drug Overdose and Occupational Safety Training + Mobile Buprenorphine Rescue Intervention for Life Saving Encounters
Six pilot Fire/EMS districts across the state began providing medic-initiated Suboxone (buprenorphine) inductions out in the field for patients experiencing withdrawal upon overdose revival. Making Missouri the second state in the nation to implement this cutting-edge practice!
Led by The University of St. Louis - Missouri Institute of Mental Health (UMSL-MIMH) and in partnership with Dr. Gerald Carroll, Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and Addiction Physician, who pioneered this initiative, and Eric Tuttle, Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic (EMT-P), from Cooper Health EMS in Camden, New Jersey.
Evidence Based Practice
Screening, Brief Intervention, Referral to Treatment
SBIRT is an evidence-based approach to the provision of early intervention and treatment services for community members living with substance use disorders, as well as those who are at risk of developing such conditions.
Screening quickly assesses the severity of substance use and identified the appropriate level of care.
Brief Intervention focuses on increasing insight, awareness, and motivation towards behavioral change.
Referral treatment provides those identified as needing move extensive treatment with access to timely care.
