Trustee Matters is a bimonthly digital newsletter from the Missouri Hospital Association that delivers insights on health care topics with a special focus on how those matters impact hospital governance and leadership. Each issue is packed with the latest state and federal initiatives, as well as, governance guidance and resources to promote continuous learning and engagement. The publication provides educational tools to Missouri’s hospital trustees to add value to their board service and trustee experience.

The document is a Microsoft Word template that enables you to quickly and easily add and delete content to modify the manual to your organization’s unique needs. An Instruction Guide is available to assist with editing the document.

Hiring a competent CEO is the number one role of a hospital board, and perhaps one of the most important decisions the team will make. This resource guide should be used with other CEO search tools. Each hospital has different needs and every candidate is unique; however, with certain guidelines and tips, the search process can yield successful results. It is always a good idea to network with peers during the course of the search to ensure your hospital is maintaining its competitive edge in the field. Research will allow your hiring board to make an educated decision about the best candidate for your facility.

Hospital governance has changed greatly in the last decade as a response to local and national trends in health care. To remain engaged and successful in the leadership role, board members are encouraged to sharpen old skills and acquire new ones. Without knowledge of and attention to the basic components of a board’s reason for being, a board may inadvertently abdicate its responsibilities. It is the board’s responsibility to map the hospital’s course through the establishment and periodic review of its mission, vision and goals.
