2. Speaker BiosToggle Panel

   Kimberly Cornwell, DNP, APRN, FNP-C, is a clinical assistant professor in nursing at the University of Kansas. She earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing from William Jewell College in Liberty Mo., her Master of Science from the University of Kansas and her Doctor of Nursing Practice from Fort Hays State University. She also is certified as a family nurse practitioner. Cornwell has been involved with nursing education for more than 20 years as a faculty member, working with both undergraduate and graduate nursing students and their preceptors, working as a graduate level preceptor, as well as coordinating both inpatient and outpatient nurse educational programs.

   Her nursing experience over the past 27 years includes both inpatient and community labor and delivery and postpartum care, primary care for low-income and uninsured families, women’s health care, reproductive medicine and endocrinology, and most recently radiation oncology. She enjoys working with students, nurses and preceptors in the clinical setting both in obstetrics and their capstone experience. Her current research activities include professional identity formation in undergraduate nursing students, improving mental health outcomes of nurses through intentional coping behaviors training and bridging the academic-practice gap through competency-based education. 

   Kristine Hart L’Ecuyer, Ph.D., R.N., CNL, CNE, is an associate professor of nursing and the interim dean for the Trudy Busch Valentine School of Nursing at Saint Louis University. She is a graduate of the University of Missouri, the University of Alabama at Birmingham and Saint Louis University. L’Ecuyer has been involved with preceptor education for more than 20 years as a hospital educator and as a faculty member, working with undergraduate and graduate students and their preceptors.  

   Her clinical background includes critical care nursing of adult and pediatric thoracic and cardiothoracic patients, including heart and lung transplant recipients at the University of Missouri, the University of Alabama and St. Mary’s Hospital in St. Louis. She has been on the faculty at Saint Louis University since 1993, teaching undergraduate medical-surgical clinicals, clinical capstone courses, advanced pathophysiology and leadership. She was formerly the director of the continuing nursing education department and associate dean for undergraduate and prelicensure nursing education. Her research interests include preceptor issues, transition to practice, nursing students with learning disabilities, and interprofessional education and collaboration.

   Maegan Roper, MSN, R.N., CMSRN, CNL, is an accomplished nurse educator and clinician with more than a decade of nursing experience and a passion for mentoring the next generation of nurses. She has been a full-time faculty member at Saint Louis University’s Trudy Busch Valentine School of Nursing since 2019, where she is dedicated to bridging the gap between education and clinical practice. With a strong foundation in medical-surgical nursing, Roper has served as a first-choice preceptor throughout her bedside nursing career, ensuring that new nurses transition seamlessly into professional roles.

   Her commitment to developing practice-ready nurses is at the core of her teaching philosophy. She believes in fostering critical thinking, clinical judgment and interprofessional collaboration to prepare students for the complexities of modern health care. In addition to her teaching role, Roper remains active in clinical practice, reinforcing her ability to integrate real-world experiences into the classroom. She is a leader in nursing education, serving on multiple academic committees, mentoring students and faculty, and contributing to curriculum development. Through her work, she strives to uphold the highest standards of nursing education, ensuring that her students graduate not only competent but confident in their ability to provide exceptional patient care.  

3. Continuing EducationToggle Panel

   Participants must attend the program in its entirety and complete an evaluation to receive a certificate of completion and continuing education contact hours.

   In support of improving patient care, this activity has been planned and implemented by the AXIS Medical Education and MHA Health Institute. AXIS Medical Education is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) to provide continuing education for the health care team.

   Credit Designation for Nursing

   AXIS Medical Education designates this continuing nursing education activity for 7.0 contact hours. Learners are advised that accredited status does not imply endorsement by the provider or ANCC of any commercial products displayed in conjunction with an activity.

   MHA reserves the right to cancel this event due to low enrollment, public health concerns, natural disasters or unforeseen weather conditions, or any circumstance that makes it illegal, impossible or commercially impracticable for the event to be held. In the unlikely event this occurs, a full refund for any registration costs will be provided. MHA is not responsible for nonrefundable items such as airfare, hotel or other travel costs.
